TOKLAS COOK BOOK. London: Michael Joseph, 1954. with the famous recipe for Haschich Fudge, in the Desserts, Cold section, contributed by Brian Gysin, more famousl absent from the American editions. But this edition has the corrections of the errata from first American printing of 1954. As a cookbook. recipes reminiscent of their garden or the local foods or lack of them because of the war.. This British edition has the illustrations of Sir Francis Rose, and the dust jacket illustration is a drawing after the photograph of Alice by Carl Van Vechten, while living in Bilingin.

Chapters on Embroidery, Brush and Pigment, and hints and advice for Modern Homes. decorating and maintaining the house. illustrated with color plates by Louis C.Tiffany, Volkmar, Rosina Emmet, and Samuel Colman. introduction by William Morris who is associated with the Arts and Crafts Movement that used bold patterns- bold, though muted hues, stylistically had roots in Japonism in both 2 and 3 dimentional decorations. slightly cocked and with worn edges, though unusual in the first edition.

The Working Girls Association was a 19th century charitable development started to help the many girls and young women who might migrate from one state to another to find work. It was a charitable association providing shelter and security for them. In Brown, 1006.

Joseph Mitchell. OLD MR. FLOOD. NY: Duell, Sloan and Pearce, 1948. 3 essays that appeared in the New Yorker. There is this old guy named Hugh Flood who spends his days in the Hartford House a SRO. Old New York City history-- there were lots of these guys around when I first came to NY-- living their days out telling stories, reading mysteries and westerns, smelling of cigarettes that you could smoke at the bars-- when bars were bars ! Another century ago. Clams and beer and the waterfront.
